Writing, Online reviews
I decided that I need to practice writing to continue to improve my writing skills. I rather enjoyed the prompts on WordPress (https://fahmeenaodetta1.wordpress.com/dailypostchallenges/). Linkedin articles were one way to practice. Here is an article I enjoyed writing: Abuse of Power In Online Reviews https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/abuse-power-online-reviews-fahmeenaodetta-moore/ It led to selection of the topic (online reviews) for my… Continue reading

Transferring to a new career
More thoughts on my education and background… Training and experience in performance auditing provided skills that transferred well to testing computer systems/applications. Here is an example of a performance auditing report: https://www.osc.state.ny.us/state-agencies/audits/2018/05/04/compliance-payment-card-industry-standards-follow It determined the extent to which recommendations were followed. Testing compares actual to expected – looking for defects or unexpected/undesirable system behavior. A… Continue reading

School projects
I went looking for my projects/assignments from the MS in Information Systems program at UMBC. My web page was: https://userpages.umbc.edu/~mooref1/. It included projects like the online magazine subscription store, completing a shopping cart program, and a blosxom blog (http://blosxom.sourceforge.net/). That was a good program! https://onlinems.umbc.edu/courses.php Continue reading

IT vs Business
Further thoughts on my education….. I started my career in finance and somehow ended up in the IT (information technology) field. Who would have thought? Maybe I should have selected a technical undergraduate degree. I am happy that I decided to study computer studies at O Level even though I was a business student. And,… Continue reading

Reflections
I was out at the nearby soccer/football field working on a signature assignment. I don’t go outdoors as much these days. I found a post that reminded me of this…. “I was out on the nearby field thinking” – https://qualresearchdesignmoorefo1.blogspot.com/2017/03/currently-working.html (blog: https://qualresearchdesignmoorefo1.blogspot.com/) I also found the matching video…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPWK1-m9EL8&t=2s Continue reading

Internships
Remembering the work study/internship I did at NIS many years ago in Guyana. I got that internship through the school. Years later, at the university level, I got an internship at USPTO through the school. Internships can make a difference. Continue reading

Technology and productivity
I found an interesting article on 12 Ways Technology Can Increase Workplace Productivity: https://www.tinypulse.com/blog/12-ways-technology-can-increase-workplace-productivity I like this topic. This reminds me of a paper I prepared on the performance impacts of technology (on hand hygiene compliance). Some of the research questions include: RQ1: Do technology solutions that monitor hand hygiene compliance result in improved employee… Continue reading
ABOUT ME
I am the author of a new and different poembook on a section of my life. In the next few months, I would like to publish more of my PhD papers as well as more lessons from my life.
I am on a break from PhD studies at National University, formerly Northcentral University (NCU). At NU, I completed 11 signature assignments – significant papers with original ideas. In one paper, I foresaw specific problems at a major company. In another, I designed a study (with statistical analyses) to explain why videos do not significantly enhance or improve online reviews. I worked alone. My signature assignments are available at: https://fahmeenaodettasignaturepapers.tumblr.com.
Bio:
For a long time, I worked in auditing, finance, and information technology. I excelled at financial reporting, analysis, modeling, and training. I wrote a lot at work. I wrote analysis reports, plans, and tons of emails to communicate issues and such. At some point, I decided to pursue a PhD to qualify for special teaching positions. One of my advantages was my multidisciplinary background, including experience in several areas, which I made work for me in my PhD papers. During a break from my PhD, I decided to write about my childhood using poetry. It turned out to be very successful.
About THIS BLOG
I created this blog to capture my thoughts and ideas and to practice writing. Why practice writing? I was on a break from my PhD and not writing much. I needed to continue writing regularly – I wrote and submitted weekly assignments/papers.
I also track my mental health using this blog.
I am currently working on publishing my papers in academic journals. Click the ‘paperforpublishing’ tag in the tags section below for my last status update. Usability/user experience is one of my topics. Click on the ‘usability’ label/tag to view my posts, including ideas, on usability. I have new ideas you may be interested in. If you are here for information on my success research, click on the ‘success’ tag. If you are here for information on my hometown, click on the ‘lindenguyana’ tag. If you are curious about my choices about God, click on the ‘WhyGodForever’ label.
I welcome comments. Submit your comments and feedback at any time. I prefer that you use Facebook for comments, but feel free to comment in any of the blogs or on Twitter.
