Reviews
My previous post (the post added earlier today) made me think of the first signature assignment I prepared at NCU, which was on online reviews. While preparing that signature assignment, I learned that a consumer review is considered more believable if it is balanced or neutral. One-sided reviews are not as believable. The analysis provided Continue reading

Updated Paper Ready For Publishing
Selecting the journal for publishing my updated paper on the online review industry/domain is taking longer than anticipated. The paper includes a lot of information on decision support systems but a “pure” IS (Information Systems) journal does not seem to be the best fit. I spent some time researching journals that combine both business and Continue reading

Recommendation Systems
I first learned of recommendation systems during my first literature review course at NCU. The topic was online reviews and recommender systems were one type of system connected with online reviews. I included some information in my paper on these systems that made recommendations to users. I thought they added a lot of value (were Continue reading

Update Dec12
I am hard at work…. I just re-submitted my manuscript to Information Systems Research. The journal notified me that I needed to make a correction to my selected reviewers. I am currently editing the paper on organizational structure. I will use a Venn diagram to show inter-relationships – similar to the Venn diagram shown here: Continue reading

Another Paper Submitted
I submitted another paper for publication today. The journal is: MIS Quarterly. The paper is on online reviews. I prepared a new version of my first signature assignment for publication. I wanted to submit the paper to Cornell for publication since it is related to the paper I mentioned yesterday on responding to online reviews Continue reading

Update Nov28
I submitted another paper for publishing. I called it “A Critical Analysis of Three Papers On Responding To Online Reviews.” I submitted it to Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. Years ago, when I was working on the paper, I actually requested one of the three articles reviewed from Cornell University through the NCU (ncu.edu) library because it Continue reading

Videos In Healthcare
My research on videos has included the use of videos in online reviews (reviews on websites such as yelp.com) and real estate, video monitoring of employees for hand hygiene compliance (one of the technologies used), and training videos. Today, I discovered videos are also used a lot in healthcare – for surgical education (video coaching), Continue reading

Interesting Article On Online Reviews, Happiness and Travel
I found an interesting article that used online reviews to measure consumers’ happiness with travel destinations. The article is: Utilizing text-mining to explore consumer happiness within tourism destinations By: Benjamin Garner, Corliss Thornton, Anita Luo Pawluk, Roberto Mora Cortez, Wesley Johnston, Cesar Ayala https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0148296321005853 The researchers used travel reviews from Yelp.com. They extracted words from Continue reading

Responses
My recent issue with McDonald’s got me thinking about my paper on how companies (hotels specifically) respond to comments and feedback in online reviews. I liked that paper – An Annotated Bibliography dated November 15, 2015, graded by Professor Kuhn. I recall that I requested one of the journal articles used in the paper from Continue reading
FEATURED
I am working to be published.
I completed 11 signature assignments – significant papers with original ideas. In one paper, I foresaw specific problems at a major company. In another, I designed a study (with statistical analyses) to explain why videos do not significantly enhance or improve online reviews. I worked alone. My signature assignments available at: https://fahmeenaodettasignaturepapers.tumblr.com.
About THIS BLOG
I created this blog to capture my thoughts and ideas and to practice writing. Why practice writing? I was on a break from my PhD and not writing much. I needed to continue writing regularly – I wrote and submitted weekly assignments/papers.
I also track my mental health using this blog.
I am currently working on publishing my papers in academic journals. Click the ‘paperforpublishing’ tag in the tags section below for my last status update. My main area of specialization is usability/user experience. Click on the ‘usability’ tag to view my posts, including ideas, on usability. If you are here for information on my success research, click on the ‘success’ tag. If you are here for information on my hometown, click on the ‘lindenguyana’ tag.
I welcome comments. Submit your comments and feedback at any time. I prefer that you use Facebook for comments, but feel free to comment in any of the blogs or on Twitter.
