More Than One Way
There is a saying that there is more than one way to skin a cat (more on this saying is available at: https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/there-is-more-than-one-way-to-skin-a-cat.html). I discovered that this is true even for the alphabet. For a long time, I thought there was only one alphabet song – a classic song I learned as a young girl Continue reading

Is Salt And Vinegar An Acquired Taste?
Most people associate salt and vinegar with salads, but there are salt and vinegar chips, salt and vinegar chicken wings, and salt and vinegar crisps/potatoes (examples are included in my Pinterest board ‘Salt & Vinegar,’ https://www.pinterest.com/fahmeenaodetta/salt-vinegar/). My Friday Flashback is to the period during high school when the local beverage company sold a popular salt Continue reading

PC Graduation Program
These are photos of the 1991 graduation program for President’s College. It shows the graduating class. I did not hide names because I assume this is public information. Continue reading

Pirate
Today, I was reminded that I wore a “patch” (wound dressing) over my left eye during high school. I got the patch because of a small “growth” on my left eye. The school nurse at President’s College arranged for me to go to Georgetown Hospital to get rid of the “growth.” I was transported to Continue reading

Programming
Some people may be surprised that I learned programming in high school (at President’s College in Guyana, a country in South America and member of the CARIbbean COMmunity). Computer Studies was one subject/course at the school. I had an expatriate teacher who was very knowledgeable. He taught us a lot. However, I found some of Continue reading

Paper For Publishing
While working on a paper for publishing on online communities, it occurred to me that the shepherding program described in one of the included articles is a lot like the pastorial system I experienced at President’s College. A look at how that program was run and its success would make a great paper for publishing. Continue reading

More Water
Some things at President’s College were very elite. For example, we were taught to ride horses by trained “professionals.” We used bed linens/sheets made from custom-designed fabric that identified the school. Some things were “on a lower level.” We sometimes fetched buckets of water. My bucket was larger than a regular bucket so I would Continue reading

PE Outfits
I saw a post that reminded me of the standard physical education (PE) outfits at President’s College (PC). First, there was a flared skirt pants that buttoned up on the left side. When I first got to PC, I was one of a few girls who did not have that skirt pants outfit to wear to Continue reading

Status Jan12
Today, I am thinking of math during high school. I recently saw an article on one of my old math teachers – Mr. Savory. For some reason, I remember sitting in one of his classes in the second teaching block learning complex numbers. He taught me complex numbers, geometry, and some other important topics/areas. He Continue reading
FEATURED
I am working to be published.
I completed 11 signature assignments – significant papers with original ideas. In one paper, I foresaw specific problems at a major company. In another, I designed a study (with statistical analyses) to explain why videos do not significantly enhance or improve online reviews. I worked alone. My signature assignments available at: https://fahmeenaodettasignaturepapers.tumblr.com.
About THIS BLOG
I created this blog to capture my thoughts and ideas and to practice writing. Why practice writing? I was on a break from my PhD and not writing much. I needed to continue writing regularly – I wrote and submitted weekly assignments/papers.
I also track my mental health using this blog.
I am currently working on publishing my papers in academic journals. Click the ‘paperforpublishing’ tag in the tags section below for my last status update. My main area of specialization is usability/user experience. Click on the ‘usability’ tag to view my posts, including ideas, on usability. If you are here for information on my success research, click on the ‘success’ tag. If you are here for information on my hometown, click on the ‘lindenguyana’ tag.
I welcome comments. Submit your comments and feedback at any time. I prefer that you use Facebook for comments, but feel free to comment in any of the blogs or on Twitter.
